Toby Payton Graves, age 75, resident of Hickory Valley and wife of the late Raymond Thomas "Tom" Graves, departed this life Saturday evening, September 24, 2016 at her residence.
Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Graves were conducted at 11 A.M. Saturday, October 1, 2016 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Dr. Jim Whitmire, music minister at the Crossroads Baptist Church in Eads, officiating. He was assisted by Bro. Keith Hayworth. Interment will follow in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - West Chapel at Oakland
Mrs. Graves was born November 7, 1940 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. She received her education at the Central High School of Chattanooga and the Baptist School of Nursing. She was married July 3, 1962 to Raymond Thomas “Tom” Graves and she was a former member of Bellevue Baptist Church and most recently a member of the Hickory Valley Baptist Church.
Mrs. Graves was a lifelong resident of Tennessee and was employed as a nurse before becoming a homemaker. She enjoyed quilting, antiquing, traveling, but most of all, being a grandmother to her seven grandchildren. She will be remembered for her strong spiritual Christian influence in the lives of her family members and friends.
Mrs. Graves is survived by her daughter, Laurie Berry (Shell) of Waxhaw, NC; three sons, John Graves (Kristy) of Eads, TN, Paul Graves (Christy) of Atlanta, GA, Josh Graves (Cindy) of Somerville, TN; and seven grandchildren, Mary Grace Berry, Maggie Berry, McKinley Berry, Payton Graves (Alyssa), Conner Graves, Tiffany Graves and Tommy Graves.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Thomas “Tom” Graves who died July 22, 2012; her parents, John McKinley Payton and Maggie Laurel Elizabeth Campbell Payton; eight sisters and one brother.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers were John Graves, Paul Graves, Josh Graves, Shell Berry, Payton Graves and Conner Graves. Honorary pallbearers included Micheal Baskette, Patrick Baskette and Brian Baskette.
