Thomas Dosson “Tom” Fortenberry, age 75, resident of Cordova and husband of the late Judy Lemmon Fortenberry, died Tuesday morning, October 3, 2017 at the St. Francis Hospital in Memphis.
Services of Remembrance for Mr. Fortenberry were conducted at 5 P.M. Thursday, October 5, 2017 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Bro. Stan Smith, pastor of Somerville First Baptist Church, officiating. Interment followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center – West Chapel at Oakland.
Mr. Fortenberry was born July 11, 1942 in Fort Worth, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Dosson Fortenberry and Martha Collins Fortenberry. He was married April 21, 1961 to the former Judith Kay “Judy” Lemmon. Mrs. Fortenberry preceded him in death on January 24, 2014. He was a member of Bellevue Baptist Church in Cordova and was employed as an electrical engineer for Methodist Hospital Systems before his retirement. Mr. Fortenberry was a resident of the Shelby County area for 43 years and he enjoyed writing Christian poetry.
Mr. Fortenberry is survived by two daughters, Cynthia Coggins (Tim) of Murfreesboro, TN, Karen Lynn (Chris) of Oakland, TN; two sisters, Lorraine Hopkins of Fort Worth, TX, Jan Spann of Houston, TX; and four grandchildren, Nathaniel Coggins, Daniel Coggins, Connor Lynn and Wyatt Lynn.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Chris Lynn, Tim Coggins, Nathaniel Coggins, Daniel Coggins, Connor Lynn and Wyatt Lynn.
