Somerville, Tennessee

Tommy E. Summers, age 79, resident of Somerville and husband of Beverly Jamison Summers, died June 12, 2018 at his residence with his loving family around him.

Funeral Services for Mr. Summers will be conducted at 1 P.M. Friday, June 15, 2018 at the First Baptist Church of Somerville with Bro. Stan Smith, pastor of the church, officiating. Special music will be provided by Bro. Stephen White, Kay White, David Kelley, Melvin German, Dee Dowdy and Cindy Cocke. Interment will follow in the Magnolia Cemetery at Collierville. A visitation for Mr. Summers will be from 10 A.M. to 1 P.M. Friday, June 15, 2018 at the church. Arrangements will be provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center – Main Chapel of Somerville.

Tommy was born July 20, 1938 in Eads, Tennessee. He attended George R. James Grammar School and was a graduate of Collierville High School Class of 1956. He served his country in the United States Army as a young person and was married July 15, 1960 to the former Beverly Jamison. He was a farmer throughout his life. Tommy was a member of the First Baptist Church of Somerville where he served as a Deacon for many years and was also the Chairman of the Deacons.

He was an avid University of Memphis basketball and football fan and enjoyed collecting hats. Tommy loved the time he had with his family, especially with his grandchildren, and going to the beach. He treasured watching them participate in many sporting events.

Tommy is survived by his wife of 57 years, Beverly Jamison Summers; two daughters, Dianne “Dee” Dowdy (Doug) of Whiteville, TN, Tommie Lynn Tapp (Greg) of Whiteville, TN; son, Jay Summers (Melisa) of Arlington, TN; sister, Jewel Dempsey of Memphis, TN; brothers, Raymond Summers (Mary) of Bartlett, TN, Dale Summers (Denise) of Southaven, MS; two sisters-in-law, Sarah Summers of Aberdeen, MS, Betty Summers of Bartlett, TN; eight grandchildren, Jessica Sexton, Drew Dowdy, Allen Tapp, Hannah Tapp, Richard Tapp, Ava Summers, Luke Williams, Dutch Summers; and his great-granddaughter, Ellary Grace Dowdy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Franklin Alton Summers and Pauline Seward Summers; two brothers, Jimmy Summers, Paul “Peanut” Summers; and his daughter-in-law, Aggie Barnes Summers.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers will be Doug Dowdy, Drew Dowdy, Greg Tapp, Allen Tapp, Richard Tapp, Dutch Summers, Luke Williams and Brandon Sexton. Honorary pallbearers will be Ed Karcher, Morris Breedlove, Larry Cook, Steve Deaton, Buster Morris, Charles Traylor, Bobby Riles, Jimmy Jordon, Melvin German, Ellis White, Ed Denniston, Hamblette Cocke, Earl Dowdy, Don Green, Preston Douglass, Johnny Umstead, Jimmy Grubbs, Tommy Graves, Sam Bryson and Robert H. Pinkston.
