Thomas Gene “Tommy” Davidson, known to many as Bubba Davidson, resident of the Arlington Community, retired truck operator and husband of the late Sharon Davidson died Tuesday afternoon, October 2, 2012 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis where he had been a patient for four weeks. He was 68 years of age and died following an illness of two months.
Services of Remembrance for Mr. Davidson will be conducted at 2 P.M. Friday, October 5th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Rev. John Jones, pastor of the Clopton United Methodist Church in Brighton, Tennessee officiating. Interment will follow in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64. A visitation for Mr. Davidson will be from 6 to 8 Thursday evening at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland.
Mr. Davidson was born March 18, 1944 in the Warren Community of Fayette County. He was preceded in death by his parents, Manuel Davidson and Bertha Sain Davidson. He received his education in the Fayette County Public School System and was married December 11, 1962 to the former Sharon Gay Loberg, who preceded him in death on July 27, 2005.
Mr. Davidson was a longtime long distance truck operator in the Memphis area and received his first license to operate a commercial truck at the age of 18. He was employed for a number of years by the Bryce Trucking Company and Roadway Express of Memphis before his retirement in 2005.
He was a Christian and was a lifelong resident of the Shelby and Fayette County areas. He had been a resident of the Arlington Community for the past 40 years. He had a lifelong love for automobile drag racing and was an avid Dale Earnhardt, Sr. and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. car racing fan.
Mr. Davidson enjoyed a number of outdoor activities that included attending area car shows and displaying his antique 1936 Chevy pickup truck. He also repaired and restored older vehicles and enjoyed jet boating in earlier years. He will be remembered as a person devoted to his family and received much pleasure in caring for his pet dog, “Taco”.
Mr. Davidson is survived by his daughter, Dorothy Davidson McDonald (Elmo) of Arlington; two sons, Mark A. Davidson (Carol) of Bartlett, Aaron A. Davidson (Wendy) of Arlington; two sisters, Betty Kelley of Crenshaw, MS, Barbara Davis of Olive Branch, MS; five grandchildren, Louis Davidson, Brittany Davidson, Mark Davidson, Jr., Joshua McDonald, Nicholas McDonald; and one great granddaughter, Payton Lee.
Mr. Davidson was preceded in death by his daughter, Dorothy Gale Davidson.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers will be Thomas Dickey, Mark Hughes, Roy Cook, Mark Davidson, Jr., Brian Cogbill, Jerry Davis & Jordan Davis.
