Van Buren Martin Hood, resident of Diamondhead Community at Gulfport, MS with extended family members in Fayette County died Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at his residence. He was 38 years of age and died unexpectedly.
Services of Remembrance for Mr. Hood were conducted at 3 P.M. Saturday, January 14, 2012 at St. Peters by the Sea Episcopal Church in Gulfport. Graveside Services were held at 10 A.M. Monday, January 16th in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Fayette County near Mason. Local arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center — Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mr. Hood was born March 6, 1973 in Ripley, TN to David Hood and Lee W. Hood of Long Beach, MS. He attended St. Stanislaus, was a 1991 graduate of Long Beach, MS High School and a 1999 graduate of University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, MS. Mr. Hood was a member of St. Peters By the Sea Episcopal Church in Gulfport, MS and was employed by Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) in Long Beach, MS.
Mr. Hood is survived by his wife, Kylie Gibbs Hood of Diamondhead; his daughter, Olivia Grave Hood of the home; his parents, David and Lee W. Hood of Long Beach, MS; two sisters, Marion Hood Califano of Gulfport, MS, Frances Hood Burch of Diamondhead; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Francis B. Williamson of Memphis; and a niece, Shelby Alexandria Burch of Diamondhead and a number of extended family members in the Somerville and Fayette County area.
Mr. Hood was preceded in death by his grandmother, Flora M. Taylor and his grandfather, Edwin E. Hood.
