Velma Agnes (Breedlove) Crowley

October 26, 1931 — July 17, 2013

Velma Agnes Breedlove Crowley, resident of Alabaster, Alabama, native of the Moscow Community and wife of the late Thomas Daniel Crowley departed this life Wednesday afternoon, July 17, 2013 at the Shelby Ridge Health Care Center in Alabaster where she had resided for four years. She was 81 years of age and died following an extended illness.

Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Crowley were conducted at 12 Noon Tuesday, July 23rd at the Hickory Grove Baptist Church near Moscow with Rev. Jimmie Breedlove of Jackson, Tennessee officiating. Interment followed in the Hickory Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center — Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mrs. Crowley was born October 26, 1931 in Moscow. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey A. Breedlove and Allean Watkins Breedlove, early residents of the Moscow area. She was a 1950 graduate of the Ashland High School in Ashland, Mississippi and continued her education at the Memphis School of Commerce prior to her marriage.

She was married June 13, 1953 to Thomas Daniel Crowley, a retired electronics technician for the Federal Aviation Administration. Mr. and Mrs. Crowley lived in various locations during Mr. Crowley’s employment that included Hayti, MO, Memphis, Miami, FL, Jackson, TN and Estill Springs, TN. Mr. Crowley preceded her in death on December 23, 2007. Mrs. Crowley had been a member of the Baptist Church throughout her life and will be remembered as a family-oriented person with a deep love for family, church and community.

Mrs. Crowley is survived by two daughters, Linda M. (Lindsay) Harper of Alabaster, AL, Lori A. (Bryan) Jones of Winchester, TN; her sister, Anne (Granville P.) Harrison of Arlington, TX; a sister-in-law, Jean Breedlove of Memphis, TN; eleven grandchildren, Meredith Harper, Tara (Alex) Curtis, Nathan Jones, Kaylan Jones, Asa Jones, Alyssa Jones, Madalyn Jones, Bryanna Jones, Dallas Jones, Marshall Jones, Taggart Jones; two great grandchildren, Nolan Curtis, Lucy Violet Curtis; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mrs. Crowley was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, Rena (Frank) Yager, James (Louise) Breedlove, Clyde (Cora Lee) Breedlove, J.D. (Nadine) Breedlove, Dona Breedlove, Harvey Breedlove, Mary (Namon) Stokes and Ransom Breedlove.

Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Morris Breedlove, Lindsay Harper, Bryan Jones, Nathan Jones, Asa Jones and Alex Curtis.

The family requests that memorials be directed to the Shelby County Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, 713 S. Mendenhall Road, Memphis, TN 38117.
