Velma Lorayne (Wiles) Stevens

April 11, 1923 — September 4, 2010

Lorayne Wiles Stevens, 87, resident of the Somerville Community, retired medical secretary and wife of the late David Carl Stevens died September 4, 2010.

A Service of Remembrance will be at 4 PM Tuesday at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with interment in the Mt. Moriah Cemetery at Whiteville. A visitation will be from 3 to 4 PM Tuesday at Peebles.

A lifelong resident of Fayette County, Mrs. Stevens served as Valedictorian of the 1941 Graduating Class of Fayette County High School and served as a medical secretary in Somerville and Whiteville for a number of years before her retirement. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Jessie B. Rogers, Joe B. Bishop and David Carl Stevens.

A Southern lady known for her gracious mannerisms and neat appearance, Mrs. Stevens served in past years as a Sunday School Teacher and Pianist at the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church at Whiteville. In recent years she was a member of the Oakland Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Stevens is survived by her step-children and step-grandchildren. Memorials are requested to Fayette Cares or to the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church or to the Mt. Moriah Cemetery Association.
