VERA ANNETTE SKELTON TICE

September 20, 1919 — May 28, 2008

VERA ANNETTE SKELTON TICE, resident of the Oak Grove Community near Moscow and wife of the late Luke Tice died at 6 A.M. Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis where she had been a patient for one day. She was 88 years of age and died following a brief illness.


Funeral services for Mrs. Tice were conduced at 2 P.M. Friday, May 30th at the Oak Grove Baptist Church near Moscow with Rev. David Parlow, Pastor of the church, officiating. Interment followed in the Oak Grove Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Home-Main Chapel of Somerville.


Mrs. Tice was born September 20, 1919, in Marshall County, Mississippi, the daughter of the late Dave Skelton and Lizzie Mae Owens Skelton. She was educated in the public schools of Marshall County and was married in 1933 to the late Luke Tice of Moscow, who died in 1964.


Mrs. Tice was a homemaker throughout her life, and in earlier years was employed by Wonder Products of Collierville, and later retired from the Troxel Manufacturing Company in Moscow after 23 years of employment. She was a former resident of the Slayden Community before moving to Moscow in 1964.


She was a devoted, longtime member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church where she participated in numerous church activities. Her greatest joy came from helping others and contributing to her church, community and family.


Survivors of Mrs. Tice include two brothers, J. L. Holmes of Victoria, MS and Clyde Holmes of Holly Springs, MS, and a host of nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews.


Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Alton Holmes, Jr., Clyde Holmes, Jr., Keith Holmes, J. L. Holmes, Jr., John Crisp, Bobby Crisp, Robert Hall and Matt Skelton.


J. D. Miller served as honorary casketbearer.
