VERNA FRANCES JEWELL BANKS, a resident of Dickson, Tennessee and former resident of the Moscow Community died at 6:20 A.M. Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at the National Healthcare Center in Dickson. She was 78 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Funeral services for Ms. Banks were conducted at 1 P.M. Friday, July 17th at the Moscow United Methodist Church with Rev. Jim Griffith, Pastor of the church, officiating. Interment followed in the Friendship Cemetery at Moscow. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mrs. Banks was born in Moscow, Tennessee on June 24, 1931.
She grew up in Moscow and was always an active member of the Moscow Methodist Church while living there.
She was a graduate of the Fayette County High School in Somerville, Class of 1949 and completed her education at the Draughons Business College in Memphis.
She lived in Atlanta, Georgia for a short while and was a resident of Memphis for many years where she was employed at Sears' Cross-town location during the early 1950's. She later was employed at General Electric in Memphis for a number of years.
A talented artist and musician, Ms. Banks later resided in Cotton Plant, Arkansas, where she served as Town Treasurer before her retirement.
After her illness Ms. Banks relocated to Fairview, Tennessee to be near her daughter.
Ms. Banks is preceded in death by her parents; Lee and Floy Jewell of Moscow and her granddaughter; Holly Diane Harris.
She is survived by her four children: Sheree Rudd of Dickson, TN; Laura Glaze of North Little Rock, AR; Donna Patnode, of Collierville, TN and Jimmy Tapp of Texas.
She is also survived by her seven grandchildren: Brett Harris of Nashville; Drew Herring and Johnny Glaze, both of North Little Rock, AR; Lee Boyd of Clarendon, AR; Alex Boyd of Collierville, TN and Andrea Tapp and Trey Tapp, both of Brinkley, AR.
Those honored to serve as casket bearers were Alex Boyd, Craig Glaze, Johnny Glaze, Brett Harris, David Patnode and Mike Rudd.
