Vernice Doyle Cook

January 5, 1919 — May 8, 2008

VERNICE DOYLE COOK, a resident of the Williston Community, retired employee of  Troxel Mfg. Co, in Moscow and wife of the late John Herman Cook, died at 12:50A.M. Thursday, May 8, 2008 at the Jackson-Madison County General Hospital in Jackson.  She was 89 years of age and died following an extended illness.


Funeral services for Mrs. Cook were conducted at 4 P.M. Sunday at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Rev. Fred Clifft and Rev. Freddie Clifft, Jr., pastor of the Shady Grove Baptist Church, officiating.  Interment followed in the Hood Cemetery in the Warren Community of Fayette County.  Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Home - Main Chapel of Somerville.


Mrs. Cook was born January 5, 1919, in the Warren Community, the daughter of the late Benjamin Howard Doyle and the late Viola German Doyle.  She was educated in the public school system of Fayette County and was first the wife of Jesse Ray Motley who preceded her in death.  Mrs. Cook was then the wife of John Herman Cook who preceded her in death in 1988.


Mrs. Cook was a lifelong resident of Fayette County and was employed for eighteen years by the Troxel Manufacturing Company in Moscow before her retirement twenty-four years ago.  She was also an employee of The Hut Restaurant in Somerville.  Mrs. Cook was a member of the Shady Grove Baptist Church will be remembered as an avid fisherman, who enjoyed sewing, gardening, cooking, quilting and being with her family.


Mrs. Cook is survived by her daughters, Joyce Barron (William), Rachel Spicer (Walter), both of Williston, Debbie Fussell (Cledus) of Fisherville, her sons, Ray Motley ( Barbara Jean) Donnie Cook (Kathy), both of Somerville, four sisters, Ruth Alexander of Somerville, Cornelius Lobdell of Francesville, Indiana, Dorothy Wood of Suffolk, VA, Jewel Wood of Medaryville, IN; two brothers, Earnest Doyle and  Wesley Doyle, both of Millington; 13 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren.


Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Terry Motley, Danny Motley, Matthew Cook, Eddie Anthony, Jr., William Barron, Jr. and Barry Barron.


The family request that memorials be directed to the Shady Grove Baptist Church.
