Vernon Junious Walls

September 22, 1929 — April 5, 2015

Vernon Junious Walls, age 85, resident of Toone and husband of Peggy Ruth Warfield Walls, departed this life Sunday morning, April 5, 2015 at the Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.

Services of Remembrance with Military Honors for Mr. Walls will be conducted at 1 P.M. Thursday, April 9th at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with interment in the Spring Hill Cemetery at Laconia. A visitation for Mr. Walls will be from 10 A.M. to 1 P.M. Thursday, April 9th at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville. Arrangements will be provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - Main Chapel in Somerville.

Mr. Walls was born September 22, 1929 in Moscow. He was preceded in death by his parents, Virge Earnest Walls and Susie Bell Stafford Walls. He received his education in the Fayette and Hardeman County (Hickory Valley) School Systems and served his country in the United States Army from February 19, 1951 until January 17, 1957 as a Corporal during the Korean War period. He was a former resident of Bolivar before moving to Toone. He was married February 6, 1987 to the former Peggy Ruth Warfield, who survives. Mr. Walls served as a plumber and electrician for 50 years and continued to work part-time for 20 years until December of 2014. He was a member of the Bolivar Church of Christ and enjoyed outdoor activities that included gardening, fishing and hunting.

In addition to his wife of 28 years, Mr. Walls is survived by three daughters, Teresa Grey of Whiteville, Vickie Sibley of Bethel Springs, Ruth Ann Meyer of Bolivar; three sons, Randy Walls of Indianapolis, IN, Donald Tolbert (Locoasta) of Medon, TN, Rusty Tolbert of Paducah, KY; his son-in-law, Gerald Gay of Bolivar; his sister, Lottie Webb of Middleton; sixteen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley Rose Walls who died in 1985; his daughter, Jackie Gay; and his sister, Dorothy Hudiburg.

Those honored to serve as casketbearers will be Phillip Ervin, Heath Gay, Preston Tharp, Jimmy Farris, Richie Webb and Steven Burns.

The family requests that memorials be directed to the American Cancer Society, 718 Union Avenue, Memphis, Tennessee 38103.
