Vernon Marcelle Watkins, age 84, lifelong resident of the Moscow Community, United States Army Veteran and retired Farm Manager died September 2, 2012 at his residence.
Services for Mr. Watkins will be at 2 Monday afternoon at the Forty-Five Baptist Church with interment in the Forty-Five Cemetery. A visitation for Mr. Watkins will be from 12 noon until 2 Monday afternoon at the Forty-Five Baptist Church.
Mr. Watkins was born March 14, 1927 in Moscow. He was preceded in death by his parents, Morris Ellis Watkins and Mattie Lorene Baldwin Watkins. He received his education in the Fayette County Public School System and was a lifelong resident of the Moscow Community. He was employed as a Farm Manager for Franklin Farms in Moscow and served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Watkins enjoyed family and church reunions, gardening, hunting, fishing and caring for his canine companion, JoJo. He will be remembered for his devotion to his church.
Mr. Watkins is survived by his son, Duane Watkins of Moscow; two sisters, Mae Watkins Moore of Moscow, Iva Watkins Lane of Grand Junction; two brothers, Larry Watkins of Moscow, Jerry Watkins of Middleton; and his grandson, Daniel Watkins of La Grange.
Casketbearers will be family members and friends and honorary casketbearers will include Charlie Rodgers.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the Forty-Five Baptist Church, 19220 Highway 57, Moscow, TN 38057 or the Forty-Five Cemetery, c/o Virgil Leatherwood, 1075 Leatherwood Road, Moscow, TN 38057.
