VICKIE ADAIR HAMMONS WILLIAMS, a resident of the Hickory Withe Community and wife of the late Carl Williams died at 2 P.M. Tuesday, August 11, 2009 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Memphis where she had been a patient for two days. She was 59 years of age and died following a nine-month illness.
Funeral services for Mrs. Williams were conducted at 2 P.M. Friday, August 14th at the Graveside with Rev. Ed Eubanks, Pastor of the Hickory Withe Presbyterian Church, officiating. Interment followed in the Walls Cemetery at Braden, Tennessee. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mrs. Williams was born July 19, 1950 in Millington Tennessee.
She was educated in the Shelby County Public School System and was married to Anthony Carl Williams, Sr., West Tennessee Plumber and United States Navy Veteran, who died September 29, 2003.
Mrs. Williams was a Christian and a friend of the Hickory Withe Presbyterian Church.
She was a homemaker throughout her life and at the time of her illness was employed as a salesperson at the Hickory Withe Exxon Convenience Store on Highway 64.
She was a lifelong resident of Fayette County and enjoyed caring for her grandchildren. She developed a close friendship with her many customers at the Exxon Convenience Store.
Survivors of Mrs. Williams include her daughter, Rita Wortham of Atoka; her son, Anthony Carl Williams, Jr. of Hickory Withe; her father, Robert Hammons; two brothers, Don Hammons and Jimmy Hammons, both of Memphis; six grandchildren and one great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her mother and sister.
Those honored to serve as casket bearers were family members and friends.
