Virginia (Lucas) Emerson

May 7, 1919 — December 15, 2012

Virginia Lucas Emerson, longtime resident of Somerville and a person active in her community for many years died Saturday, December 15, 2012 at the Methodist Hospital in Germantown where she had been a patient for one day. She was 93 years of age and died following a brief illness.

Services of Remembrance for Ms. Emerson were conducted at 3 P.M. Monday, December 17th at the Somerville First Baptist Church with Dr. Ken Story, pastor of the church officiating. Special Music was provided by Dr. Stephen White, Bro. Philip McKibben, Mrs. Cindy Cocke, Mrs. Beverly Summers and the First Baptist Church Sanctuary Choir. Interment followed in the Somerville City Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center — Main Chapel of Somerville.

Ms. Emerson was born May 7, 1919 in Haywood County, Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Thomas Lucas and Lue Emma Royer Lucas. She received her education in the Lauderdale County Public School System and had been a resident of the Somerville Community for much of her life.

In past years, she served as a switchboard operator for the Somerville Telephone System and in later years, served as a secretary for the Fayette County Farm Bureau and the Somerville First Baptist Church. Ms. Emerson was a devoted member of the Somerville First Baptist Church, where she participated in numerous church activities that included being a member of the church choir.

Ms. Emerson is survived by her daughter, Anne Redfearn Feathers of Somerville; three sons, Leo Timmons Redfearn, Jr. of Clarksville, TN, twin sons, Terry Manson Redfearn of Somerville and Jerry William Redfearn (Shirley) of Somerville; three grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Mike Cursey, David Dennie, Melvin German, Kurt McKibben, Charles Moore and Scott Riessen.
