Virginia Dale “Ginger” Dawkins Ferguson, age 72, resident of the Macon Community and wife of Ben C. Ferguson, departed this life Thursday morning, August 25, 2016 at the Baptist Reynolds Hospice House in Collierville.
Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Ferguson were conducted at 3 P.M. Monday, August 29, 2016 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Bro. James Lewis, pastor of DeSoto Hills Baptist Church in Southaven, Mississippi, officiating. He was assisted by Dr. Ken Culver, pastor of the Warren Community Church in Somerville. Interment followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center – West Chapel at Oakland.
Mrs. Ferguson was born September 25, 1943 in Memphis. She received her education in the Shelby County Public School System and was a graduate of Messick High School. She was a resident of the Macon Community for 18 years and was employed as a teller for First Tennessee Bank before her retirement. Mrs. Ferguson and her first husband, John William Campbell, bred and showed Arabian horses and were very influential in starting the Arabian horse business in the Mid-South. Mrs. Ferguson was married September 27, 2008 to Ben C. Ferguson and was of the Christian faith. She had a special love for her pet dogs and cats.
Mrs. Ferguson is survived by her husband, Ben C. Ferguson of Macon; three sons, Christopher Campbell (Janice) of Macon, Kenneth Campbell (Tammy) of Arlington, John Allen Campbell (Karen) of Ellendale; her step-son, Benjamin LeGrande Ferguson (Kristy) of Slidell, LA; her sister, Gloria Hyden of Memphis; three brothers, Dennis Dawkins of Cleburne, TX, Larry Dawkins of Savannah, GA, Michael Dawkins of Austin, TX; twelve grandchildren, Christopher Campbell, Jr. (Angela) Rebecca Griffith (Chip), Jessica Terrell (Nathaniel), John Allen Campbell (Audrey), Kevin Campbell (Amber), Nicholas Campbell (Meagan), Jeremy Wiseman (Linda), Chad Wiseman (Amy), Dustin Smith (Mandy), Mandy Flemming (Craig), Chris Smith, Benjamin LeGrande Ferguson II; and fifteen great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, John William Campbell and her parents, Maurice Ewell Dawkins and Evelyn Scott Dawkins.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Christopher Campbell, Jr., John Allen Campbell, Nate Terrell, Chip Griffith, Jeremy Wiseman, Chad Wiseman, Nicholas Campbell and Kevin Campbell.
