Virginia Lou (Whittemore) Freels

Virginia Lou Whittemore Freels, resident of Memphis, native of Somerville and wife of the late Jesse Freels departed this life Monday morning, April 8, 2013 at her residence. She was 70 years of age and died following an extended illness.

Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Freels were conducted at 3 P.M. Wednesday, April 10th at the Harmony Baptist Church near Whiteville with Bro. Fred Campbell, minister of the Holly Grove Baptist Church in Brownsville officiating. He was assisted by Bro. Butch Westover of the Harmony Baptist Church. Special music was provided by Bro. Benny Morrison. Interment followed in the Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center — Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mrs. Freels was born March 23, 1943 in Somerville. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis Whittemore and Edda Sue Whittemore. She received her education in the Fayette County Public School System and was married to Jesse Freels, who preceded her in death.

Mrs. Freels was a member of the Harmony Baptist Church in Whiteville and a homemaker throughout her life. She lived in the Somerville Community in earlier years and in Memphis for the past 30 years. She enjoyed flower gardening, fishing, sewing and special times with her grandchildren. She received much pleasure from listening to gospel music and sermons through Joyce Meyer Ministries.

Mrs. Freels is survived by four daughters, Linda Hill of Whiteville, Melissa Houy of Brownsville, Susie Helton of Williston, Lisa Cohn of Memphis; her brother, Wilbur Whittemore of Somerville; eight grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.

Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Terry Hill, Jerry Jones, Erick Zuniga, Edward Watson, Matthew Majors and Jacob Zuniga.
Honorary casketbearers included James Hill and the family requests that memorials be directed to the Harmony Baptist Church, 4684 Eurekaton Road, Whiteville, TN 38075.
