VIRGINIA CAROLYN ANDREWS MCKENZIE

January 25, 1940 — June 30, 2008

VIRGINIA CAROLYN ANDREWS "JENNY" MCKENZIE, resident of the Hebron/Bethlehem Community in Fayette County and wife of Earl W. McKenzie, died at 6:05 A.M. Monday, June 30, 2008 at the St. Francis Hospital in Memphis where she had been a patient for six months. She was 68 years of age and died following an extended illness of several months.

Funeral services for Mrs. McKenzie were conducted at 2 P.M. Wednesday, July 2nd at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with the Rev. Don Hammonds, Pastor of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church in District 15, officiating. He was assisted by Dr. Jimmy Latimer of Memphis. Interment followed in the Hebron Cemetery of the Bethlehem Community. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Home-Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mrs. McKenzie was born January 25, 1940 in Miami, FL, the daughter of the late Herbert Snell Andrews and the late Nannie Caroline Holland Andrews. She moved at an early age with her family to West Tennessee and was a graduate of the Union City Tennessee High School. She was married August 31, 1960 to Earl W. McKenzie, longtime garage and wrecker service owner in the Stanton area.

Mrs. McKenzie had been a resident of the Hebron/Bethlehem Community for 38 years and she was a member of the Bethlehem Community Church. She and her husband operated Earl's Garage and Wrecker Service on Highway 222 in Fayette County for the past 47 years.

She was a dedicated 30 year member of the Moose Chapter #153 in Memphis where she held numerous positions of responsibility. Mrs. McKenzie served in several offices of the Moose organization and was the recipient of numerous awards. She looked forward each year to attending her family reunion in Twin Lakes, Georgia and was an active participant in the Women of the Moose Annual Conventions. She will be remembered as a loving person who cared deeply for her family, friends and neighbors. She received much pleasure and enjoyment with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. McKenzie is survived by four daughters, Tammy Williams (Ricky) of Stanton; Linda Aungst (Michael) of Stanton; Nancy Bradford (James) of Scottsboro, AL and Mitzi Beck (Jim) of Arab, AL; two sons,  John Herbert "Bubba" McKenzie of Stanton and David "Tater" McKenzie of Stanton; her sister, Ann Nita Andrews of Brownsville; fifteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-granchildren.

Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Brandon Williams, Jimmy Rogers, Jim Cole, Stevie Holley, Bobby Chillcutt and Gary Bomar.

Honorary casketbearers were Mrs. McKenzie's great-grandsons: Steven, Landon, Trenton, Titan, Michael, Memphis, Austin, Collin, Blake, Mike, Gary and Mark.
