Virginia Griffin Montague, age 89, resident of the Somerville Community and wife of the late J.T. Montague, departed this life Sunday evening, June 28, 2015 at her residence.
Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Montague will be conducted at 11 A.M. Thursday, July 2nd at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with visitation one hour before services. Interment will follow in the Hood Cemetery in the Warren Community. Arrangements will be provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center – West Chapel at Oakland.
Mrs. Montague was born July 1, 1925 in Oakland. She was preceded in death by her parents, Marshall Griffin and Ida Gay Griffin. She received her education in the Memphis City School System. She was married on September 9, 1950 to James Taylor "J.T." Montague, who preceded her in death on August 8, 2005. Mrs. Montague was a longtime resident of Fayette County and was of the Baptist faith. She enjoyed gardening and working with flowers.
Mrs. Montague is survived by three daughters, Janet Montague of Somerville, Sandra Montague of Somerville, Leslie Coates (Brad) of Mediapolis, Iowa; her son, Perry Montague (Lynn) of Bartlett; and seven grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was reunited with two brothers, Herron Griffin, Johnny Griffin and her sister, Evelyn Anderson.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers will be Christopher Montague, Brad Coates, Sam Coates, Monte Burns, Walton Griffin and Gary Montague.
The family requests that memorials be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Department 142, Memphis, TN 38148.
