VIRGINIA MAE HUELSMANN STOVALL, a resident of Memphis, former resident of the Somerville Community and wife of the late Ted Stovall died Sunday afternoon, November 15, 2009 at the Methodist Le Bonheur Germantown Hospital where she had been a patient for six days. She was 81 years of age and died following a brief illness.
A Funeral Mass for Mrs. Stovall was conducted at 12 noon Wednesday, November 18th at St. Philip The Apostle Catholic Church in Somerville with Father Stephen K. Kenny officiating. Interment followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-West Chapel of Oakland.
Mrs. Stovall was born on August 4, 1928 in Du Quoin, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank Huelsmann and Mildred Flint Huelsmann.
After completing her education she was married on October 29, 1949 to Theodore (Ted) Stovall, a retired Chemical Plant Supervisor for Grace Chemical Company in Memphis and a United States Naval Veteran who preceded her in death on January 30, 2008.
Mr. and Mrs. Stovall were residents of Memphis for a number of years before moving to Fayette County where they enjoyed their "Country Paradise" for many years before returning to Memphis for health reasons.
They were involved in numerous community activities in Fayette County that included active participation in St. Philip The Apostle Catholic Church and local veteran's activities associated with Fayette County Veteran's of Foreign Wars Post #5013 in Somerville. Mrs. Stovall served on the Women's Auxiliary Board of the local veteran's post and was active in the ladies guild of her church.
Mr. and Mrs. Stovall were blessed with twenty years of retirement affording them the opportunity to visit various areas throughout the United States.
A homemaker throughout her life, Mrs. Stovall was a very creative, multi-talented person with many interests. She enjoyed stained glass as a hobby and was an accomplished artist. Sewing, bowling and card playing were favorite pastimes.
Survivors of Mrs. Stovall include her daughter, Sandy Wickham (Rick) of Bartlett; her son, David Stovall (Julie) of Somerville; her brother, Bernard Huelsmann of Pinckneyville, IL; four grandchildren: Mark Wickham, Karen Pyle, Jennifer Stovall and Aaron Stovall and four great-grandchildren.
Those honored to serve as casket bearers were Glen Pate, Marvin Pierski, Nick Pierski, Jim Stewart, Aaron Stovall and Mark Wickham.
Pete Reagan served as honorary casket bearer.
