Vivian Dodson
1931—2010
Vivian Ruth Scruggs Dodson, resident of the Southaven Community, native of Somerville and wife of the late Carl F. Dodson, Sr. died Wednesday afternoon, October 13, 2010 at the Landmark of DeSoto Nursing Home in Horn Lake, Mississippi. She was 79 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Funeral services for Mrs. Dodson were conducted at 1 P.M. Sunday, October 17

at the Getwell Road United Methodist Church of Southaven, Mississippi with Senior Pastor Bill Beavers and Pastor Brad Butler of the Getwell Road United Methodist Church, officiating. Graveside Services for Mrs. Dodson were conducted at 10:30 A.M. Monday, October 18
th
with interment following in the Forest Hill Cemetery East on Whitten Road. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes—Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mrs. Dodson was born in Somerville on March 29, 1931 the daughter of the late Joe Bartley Scruggs and the late Fannie Mae Lewis Scruggs. She was educated in the Fayette County Public School System and was a graduate of Fayette County High School. Mrs. Dodson married the late Carl F. Dodson, Sr. on August 12, 1951 who preceded her in death on May 26, 2000.
A Christian and devoted member of the Getwell Road United Methodist Church, Mrs. Dodson treasured special times with her family and friends. She will be remembered for her gardening, watching and caring for wildlife, and being an outgoing person who enjoyed her meetings with the Capleville Homemakers Club.
Survivors of Mrs. Dodson are her daughters,
Jane Dodson and Anita Bernardini (Tony), both of Southaven, her sons, Charles R. Dodson of Southaven and Glen A. Dodson (Liz) of Brunswick , GA, her grandchildren, Greg Dodson, Robert Bernardini, Brice Dodson, Joseph Bernardini, Alaina Dodson, Michelle Johnson and 6 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Dodson was preceded in death by her son, Frank Dodson, her sister, Louise Lamb and her brother, Willie Morris Scruggs.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the church, charity or organization of the donor’s choice.
