Vodie Holly (Thompson) Cannon

Vodie Holly Thompson Cannon, resident of the Williston Community and wife of the late Earl Wesley Cannon, Sr., departed this life Tuesday evening, August 12, 2014 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis where she had been a patient for six days. She was 92 years of age and died unexpectedly of natural causes.

Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Cannon were conducted at 10 A.M. Friday, August 15th at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Bro Rickey Burns, pastor of the Williston First Baptist Church, officiating. Interment followed in the Perry Cemetery at Laconia. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mrs. Cannon was born August 20, 1921 in Somerville. She was preceded in death by her parents, George Thompson and Mittie Morrow Thompson. She received her education in the Fayette County Public School System. She was married August 31, 1945 to Earl Wesley Cannon, Sr., a retired Fayette County Highway Road Department foreman, who preceded her in death on June 26, 1997.

Mrs. Cannon was a lifelong resident of the Somerville and Williston Communities and was of the Baptist faith. She was a homemaker throughout her life and she enjoyed sewing, quilting, canning and working with flowers.

Mrs. Cannon is survived by five daughters, Ollie York (Tommy) of Somerville, Lorene King (Morris) of the Warren Community, Sheila Eddington (Dennis) of Williston, Patricia Kimery (Ralph) of Moscow, Audrey McQueen (Ricky) of Williston; her son, Aubrey Cannon (Linda) of Whiteville; three sisters, Louise Pittman of Laconia, Ruby Ferge of Somerville, Alvie Cannon of Somerville; two brothers, Clifton Thompson of Somerville, S.T. Thompson of Nashville; 28 grandchildren and a large number of great grandchildren.

Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Richey Joyner, Stevie Lipford, Jr., Greg Kimery, Jimmy McBride, Joshua McQueen and Keith Cannon.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three sons, Earl Cannon, Jr., Luther "Arice" Cannon and Jessie Cannon.

The family requests that memorials be directed to the Williston Baptist Church, 5925 Railroad Street, Williston, TN 38076.
