WANDA SAVAGE PHILLIPS, a resident of Memphis with extended family members in Fayette County, died at 7:58 A.M., Tuesday, November 6, 2007 at the St. Francis Hospital in Memphis where she had been a patient for one day. She was 57 years of age and died following a 6-month illness.
Funeral services for Ms. Phillips were conducted at 2 P.M. Monday, November 26th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel on Hwy. 64 at Oakland with the Rev. Tim Cox, of Memphis, officiating. Interment will be private. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Home-West Chapel.
Ms. Phillips was born January 1, 1950 in Oxford, MS., the daughter of the late Jessie Savage and Annie Wooten Savage. She moved at an early age with her family to Shelby County and was educated in the Shelby County Public School system. She was a graduate of the Treadwell High School and continued her education at The University of Mississippi at Oxford.
Ms. Phillips was a lifelong resident of the Fayette and Shelby County areas and was of the Baptist Faith. She was a homemaker and enjoyed time with her grandchildren, reading and fishing as long as health permitted.
Survivors of Ms. Phillips include her daughter, Stephanie Phillips; her son, Charles Smith, III and her brother Terry Savage all of Memphis and six grandchildren. She is also survived by the fathers of her children, John Phillips of Arkansas and Charles Smith of Florida.
