WARREN GREGORY DUERR, SR., resident of the Williston Community of Fayette County retired insurance investigator and United States Veteran, died at 6 P.M. Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at his residence on Hwy. 193. He was 86 years of age and died following a brief illness.
Funeral services for Mr. Duerr were conducted at 9 A.M. Wednesday, March 5th at the Graveside. Interment with military honors followed in the West Tennessee Veteran's Cemetery at Germantown. Arrangements were provided by the Peebles Fayette County Funeral Home - Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mr. Duerr was born July 10, 1921, in Norwich, Connecticut the son of the late Anna Muckenstrum and his step-son of the late Irving Kelley. He was a graduate of the Norwich Free Academy at Norwich, Connecticut and was a graduate of the Trinity College. Mr. Duerr was a United States Army Air Corps Veteran during the World War II period, serving his country from 1942 until his discharge in 1945. Mr. Duerr was preceded in death fifteen years ago by his wife, Rita Duerr.
After serving in the military, Mr. Duerr became a licensed detective and served as an insurance investigator for the Equifax Corporation for over forty years before his retirement twenty years ago. He was a Catholic and was often referred to as a "Snow Bird", residing during the winter months in Tampa, Florida and during the summer months in Lisbon, Connecticut. Mr. Duerr interests included fishing, bowling, golfing. He was an avid bridge player and considered by many to be a gourmet chef who also enjoyed dancing, shooting and hunting.
Mr. Duerr is survived by his children, Laura Jo Duerr of Batesville, MS; Warren G. Duerr, Jr. of Williston, Andrew B. Duerr of Cordova; eight grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Judith Ann Gonsowski.
