WESLEY DAY

March 20, 1933 — October 15, 2008

WESLEY DAY, a resident of the Williston Community and a person active in the community and religious affairs of Fayette County, died at 6:50 A.M. Wednesday, October 15, 2008 at his Fayette County residence on Highway 193. He was 75 years of age and died following an extended illness. He had suffered the last several years of his life with heart failure and diabetes and was also a cancer survivor.

Funeral services for Mr. Day were conducted at 11 A.M. Friday, October 17th at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with the Rev. Will Barnes, Pastor of the Bethlehem Baptist Church at Rossville, officiating. He was assisted by Rev. Paige Cothran. Interment followed in the Evergreen Cemetery at Williston. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mr. Day was born on March 20, 1933, in Gloster, Mississippi to Charles Thomas Day and Ruby Lee Foreman Day, who have both preceded him in death. Mr. Day was educated in the Public School system and was a Graduate of the Hammond High School in Hammond Louisiana.

He was married February 8, 1952 to the former Rose Meyers, who survives. Mr. Day and his family were residents of the Williston Community since 1970.

In his lifetime before retirement in 1992, he had two careers. He worked seventeen years at the A & P Grocery chain, with the last ten years as Store Manager. In 1967 he joined Bristol-Myers Squib. At that time he became the first person ever promoted to the level of Region Manager without a college degree. As one of thirteen Region Managers, he led the entire company in sales for twelve straight years-a record which has never been broken. He later was promoted to Division Manager, a position he held until retirement.

Mr. Day was a faithful member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church. He was an ordained Deacon, a Gideon and also served as Chaplin of the Fayette County Jail from 1996 to 2006.
