WILBUR FRANKLIN "BUNK" BOBBITT

August 16, 1926 — September 14, 2008

WILBUR FRANKLIN "BUNK" BOBBITT, longtime resident of the Macon Community in Fayette County and retired Fayette County Public Works Department Employee, died at 11:45 P.M. Sunday, September 14, 2008 at his Macon residence on Highway 193. He was 82 years of age and died following an extended illness of several years.

Funeral services for Mr. Bobbitt were conducted at 11 A.M. Wednesday, September 17th at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with his wife's nephew, the Rev. Gary Joyner, Pastor of the Moscow Full Gospel Evangelical Church, officiating. Interment followed in the Macon Cemetery at Macon, TN. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mr. Bobbitt was born in Fayette County on August 16, 1926, the son of the late Wilbur Eugene Bobbitt and the late Madge Ware Bobbitt, early residents of the Macon Community. He was educated in the Fayette County Public School System and was married October 17, 1943 to the former Bertha Joyner of Fayette County, who survives.

Mr. Bobbitt was a Truck Foreman for the Fayette County Public Works Department for more than 38 years before his retirement 20 years ago. He was a lifelong resident of Fayette County and was a member of the Macon United Methodist Church.

He enjoyed the friendships of many and will be remembered as a person who never met a stranger. He enjoyed gardening and had been involved in pig farming for much of his life. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who found much pleasure in being with family and friends.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Bobbitt is survived by three daughters: Joan Henley of Saltillo, MS; Peggy Frost (Jerry) of Collierville and Patsy Preston (Wayne) of Williston; two sons, Billy Bobbitt (Toni) of Hernando, MS and Bobby Bobbitt of Oakland; nineteen grandchildren; thirty-seven great-grandchildren and sixteen great-great-granchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert J. Bobbitt and Dempsey Bobbitt.

Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Robert Beavers, David Henley, Barry Lee, Malcolm Lessel, Tyler Malone and Brent Parker.

Honorary casketbearers were Terry Henley, Colt Reese and Tim Stanley.
