WILLIAM JOE AGENT, JR., a resident of the Collierville Community with extended family members in Fayette and Shelby Counties died at 8:45 A.M. Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at his Collierville home where he had resided for ten years. He was 74 years of age and died following a brief illness.

Funeral services for Mr. Agent were conducted at 1 P.M. Saturday, December 13th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel in Oakland with Rev. William Butran, Pastor of the New Life Church Of God in Collierville, officiating. A poem reading was offered by Mr. Agent's granddaughter, Shana Agent. Interment with Military Honors followed in the Memphis Memory Gardens Cemetery on Raleigh LaGrange Road. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-West Chapel of Oakland.

Mr. Agent was born March 26 1934 in Weir Mississippi. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Joe Agent, Sr. and Clara Mae Malone Agent. He moved at an early age to West Tennessee where he was educated in the Shelby County Public School System. He served in the United States Air Force as a young person and was married to Gwendolyn Woodard Agent, an employee of Alpha Owens Corning Corporation of Piperton, who survives.

Mr. Agent was employed in the Fabricating Department of the United States Steel Corporation in Gary, Indiana, for a number of years before his retirement. After retirement he returned to West Tennessee and resided in Collierville where he attended the New Life Church of God.

His interests included music, old television westerns, story telling and travel. He enjoyed special times with his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Agent is survived by six daughters: Debbie Latoza of Winamac, IN; Susie Mitleff of Wynne, AR; Rita Fuller of Jayess, MS and Jennifer Oechsler, Christina Arnold and Angie Agent of Collierville; his son, Steve Agent of Memphis; two sisters, Dorothy Boyette of Memphis and Shirley Catlett of Wynne, AR; his brother, James Agent of Eads; nineteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Steven Agent, Joey Corbin, David Mason, Mark Mynatt, Bruce Vennett and Jason Vennett.
