WILLIAM CARL (BILL) BENDUSH, resident of the Whiteville Community in Hardeman County and former resident of Aurora, Illinois, retired Plant Superintendent, U.S. Army World War II Veteran and husband of Esther Bendush, died Monday morning, August 24, 2009, at the Jackson-Madison County General Hospital in Jackson, Tennessee where he had been a patient for three-and-a-half weeks. He was 89 years of age and died following a ten-month illness.
Funeral Services with Military Honors were conducted for Mr. Bendush at 11 A.M. Friday, August 28th at the Graveside with Rev. Robert Cole, former Pastor of the Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church in Whiteville, officiating. He was assisted by Rev. Jerry Wilson, current Pastor of the church. Interment followed in the Melrose Cemetery at Whiteville. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mr. Bendush was born August 4, 1920 in Burlington, Iowa the son of the late Charles D. Bendush and the late Katherine Wicke Bendush.
He served in the United States Army during the World War II Period and was married August 1, 1946 to the former Esther Mathis, a retired AT&T Employee, who survives.
A resident of the Whiteville Community since 1985, Mr. Bendush will be remembered as a person who loved people and enjoyed the friendship of many during his participation in community and church activities.
A member of the Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church near Whiteville, avid hunter, fisherman and devoted family-oriented person, Mr. Bendush was a retired Superintendent for Riverside Labs in Geneva, Illinois after 30 years.
In addition to his wife of 63 years, Mr. Bendush is survived by his son, William Bendush (Sophia) of California and granddaughters, Allison Bendush and Polly Bendush; a sister, Lillian Windisch of Mountain Home, AR and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six sisters: Marion Schultz, Frances Abell, Lenora Jaekel, Margeruita Otto, Marsella Lewis and Betty Hinterlong.
Those honored to serve as casket bearers were Ben Hinterlong, Jack Hinterlong, Wayne Austin, William Lewis, Tom Hinterlong and Gary Lewis.
