William Marshall “Jack” Camp, Somerville resident, retired Civil Engineer for the Department of Navy and husband of Patsy W. Camp died Sunday evening, May 20, 2012 at his residence. He was 89 years of age and died following a brief illness.
Services of Remembrance with Military Honors for Mr. Camp were conducted at 6 P.M. Wednesday, May 23rd at the Hickory Withe Presbyterian Church with Pastor Doug Barcroft of the church officiating. Special remarks were given by Fulton Young and Hickman Ewing. Special music was provided by Terry Himebook. Interment followed at 10 A.M. Thursday, May 24th in the Somerville City Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center — Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mr. Camp was born April 16, 1923 in Greenwood, South Carolina. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse Pendleton Camp and Martha Ridley Grant Camp.
He was a devoted member of Hickory Withe Presbyterian Church. A WWII Veteran and Civil Engineer for the Department of the Navy for 52 years, he was an expert in the design and usage of military training facilities and co-wrote the Navy manual on planning for Navy basic facility requirements. He was awarded the Meritorious Civilian Service Award for his performance and expertise in 1993. He retired from Millington NAS in 1995.
His life was characterized most by his love and faithfulness to family and friends and his uncompromising devotion to Jesus Christ, his Savior. He was best known for his selfless humility and his walk with the Lord.
He leaves behind his wife Pat Camp of 57 years, his daughter, Susan Hines and her husband Charles Hines of Williston, TN; two sons, Marshal Camp and his wife Dayna Jennings Camp of Germantown, TN, Bruce Camp and his wife Martha Miller Camp of Gallatin, TN; twelve grandchildren, Rachel Novak, Aaron Camp, Hannah Beasley, David Camp, John Camp, Nathanael Hines, Sarah Hines, Johannah Hines, Amanda Hines, Jack Hines, Matthew Camp, Laura Camp; and three great-grandchildren.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the church, charity or organization of the donor’s choice.
