William Lynn Carter, longtime resident of the Pleasant Grove Community near Moscow and Truck Operator for many years before his retirement died Friday morning, January 21, 2011 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Collierville where he was taken after becoming suddenly ill at his residence. He was 68 years of age and died unexpectedly.
Funeral services for Mr. Carter were conducted at 2 P.M. Sunday, January 23 rd at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Bro. Dennis Neenan, minister of Pleasant Grove Cumberland Presbyterian Church, officiating. Interment followed in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery near Moscow. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes—Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mr. Carter was born July 15, 1942 in Gates, TN. His parents Mabel Hannah Lancaster Carter and Ollyn Wymer Carter preceded him in death. He was a graduate of the Lauderdale County Public School System and married November 4, 1973 to the former Audrey Kay Kennon of Fayette County, who survives. Mr. Carter was a Truck Operator for much of his life and was employed by Stone Containers of Collierville in this capacity for 22 years.
Mr. Carter had been a resident of the Pleasant Grove Community for over 40 years and served as a Volunteer Fireman for the Town of Moscow for 15 years. He will be remembered for his love of gardening and caring for his animals on the family farm. Mr. Carter was known for his “helping hand” to friends and family and enjoyed automobile restoration. He was a member of the Cumberland Pleasant Grove Presbyterian Church.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Carter is survived by his daughter: Debra Ann Carter Kunst (Lester) of Middleton, TN; his grandchildren: Kevin Nicholas Kunst (Tiffany), Amanda Kay Kunst, Laderus Kunst; and his niece: Cathy English Johnson (Eric) of Kingswood, TX. Mr. Carter was preceded in death by his brother: James Roy English.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Jack Joyner, Travis Kennon, Stevie Manley, Perry Mullins, Bobby Parmely, Michael Robinson, Earl Torkell and Allen Wilkerson .
Honorary casketbearers were Jim Chapman, Johnny Kennon, Lester Kunst II, Arnold Smith, Ernest Yager and all of those associated with the Fayette County Volunteer Fire Departments.

The family requests that memorials be directed to the Pleasant Grove Cemetery Association, 2320 Pleasant Grove Road, Moscow, TN 38057.
