WILLIAM LEWIS "BUBA" JOHNSON, JR., a resident of the Mason Community and husband of Sharon Coleman Johnson died at 3:23 P.M. Tuesday, September 2, 2008, at the St. Francis Hospital in Bartlett where he had been a patient for fifteen days. He was 47 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Funeral services for Mr. Johnson were conducted at 2 P.M. Friday, September 5th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel on Highway 64 at Oakland with his uncle, Mr. Roy Cox, A Minister of the Church of Christ, officiating. Special Remarks were provided by Mr. Johnson's son, William Johnson, III and his nephew, Joshua Wall. Interment followed in the Magnolia Gardens Cemetery at Covington. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-West Chapel of Oakland.
Mr. Johnson was born February 7, 1961, in Lauderdale County, Tennessee, the son of the former Katherine Cox and the late William Lewis Johnson, Sr. He moved at an early age with his family to the Memphis area and was educated in the Shelby County Public School System.
Mr. Johnson was a former resident of Southwest Virginia and had been a resident of the Mason Community for the past twelve years. He served as an Independent Gutter Installation Contractor for much of his life before retiring for health reasons four years ago.
He was of the Baptist Faith and his interests included fishing, hunting, riding his four-wheeler and Dale Earnhart racing activities. He enjoyed special family times that included his grandchildren and his pet dog, "Jerry Lee".
In addition to his wife of 28 years, Mr. Johnson is survived by two daughters, Diane G. Johnson and husband Dale Ferrell of Mason; Shalane E. Johnson and husband, Justin Peterson of Whiteville; his son, William Lewis Johnson, III and wife Megan of Mason; his mother, Katherine Patricia Davis and step-father, Gary L. Davis of Lebanon, VA; three sisters: Janet Hinson of Tampa, FL; Sherry Riley (Gary) of Kearneysville, WV and Lorie Walsh (John) of Atoka; two brothers, Mark Hylton (Beth) of Pounding Mill, VA and Russell Hylton (Patty) of Raven, VA and six grandchildren.
Those who preceded Mr. Johnson in death include a daughter, Felicia Johnson; two brothers, Robert Hylton and Randy Hylton; two grandchildren, Justin Wayne Peterson and Brooklyn Madison Peterson; his step-father, Otis Hylton and his grandparents, Pink Preston and Lela Johnson and John Russell and Winnie Mae Cox.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Michael Grant Cox, Mark Anthony Hylton, Russel Otis Hylton, William Lewis Johnson, Gary Douglas Riley, Joshua Phillip Wall and Damon Phillips.
