WILLIAM DANIEL "BILL" KIDD, a resident of the Oakland Community and President of American Savings Credit Union, died at 6:09 A.M. Sunday, June 1, 2008 at the Methodist North Hospital in Memphis where he had been a patient for 3 days. He was 67 years of age and died following a two-week illness.
Funeral services for Mr. Kidd were conducted at 2 P.M. Sunday, June 8th at the Calvary Episcopal Church in downtown Memphis with The Rev. George Yandell, and The Rev. Andrew MacBeth officiating. Graveside Services followed at 4 P.M. Sunday at the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64 near Oakland. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Home-West Chapel of Oakland.
A native of the Winborn Community in Benton County, Mississippi, Mr. Kidd was born August 3, 1940. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Wyatt Kidd and Frankie Lee Sharpe Kidd. He moved at an early age to Memphis where he was educated in the Memphis Public School Systems and was a Summa Cum Laude graduate of Christian Brothers University in Memphis with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. Mr. Kidd was associated with the American Savings Credit Union in Memphis for 22 years and was currently serving as President of the organization. He was a resident of Memphis before moving to the Oakland Community seven years ago.
He was a devoted parishioner of the Calvary Episcopal Church in Memphis and was active in the Church Ministry to the homeless. Mr. Kidd will be remembered as an avid landscape gardener with a love of animals and nature. In earlier years he served as a musician for Presbyterian and Methodist Churches in Memphis.
Mr. Kidd is survived by his partner of twenty-six years, Greg Smith; his Pekingese, Bijou and ChouChou; his brothers, Jerry L. Kidd (June) of Somerville, Orman Kidd of Memphis; his niece, Jennifer K. Sutton, and many great nieces and nephews.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Gregg Coats, Joe D. Smith, Kenny Avery, Michael Sutton, Jacob Sutton, Jordan Sutton, Wade Glasscock and David Tipton.
Joe B. Smith served as honorary casketbearer.
