William Thomas Scott, age 72, resident of the Macon Community, retired owner of Scott's Grocery in Macon and husband of Lou Scott, departed this life Friday, November 7, 2014 at the Methodist LeBonheur Germantown Hospital.
Services of Remembrance for Mr. Scott were conducted at 11 A.M. Monday, November 10th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Chris Coil of the Somerville Church of Christ, officiating. Interment followed in the Macon Cemetery at Macon, Tennessee. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - West Chapel at Oakland.
Mr. Scott was born May 3, 1942 in Macon, Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Thomas Scott, Sr. and Nellie Holmes Pleasants Scott. He received his education in the Fayette County Public School System and was a graduate of Fayette County High School Class of 1960. He was married June 15, 1963 to the former Lou Waller, who survives.
Mr. Scott was the business owner of Scott's Grocery in Macon for a number of years before his retirement. He was a lifelong resident of Fayette County and an active member of the Somerville Church of Christ. He enjoyed outdoor activities that included yardworking and washing cars. Reading his Bible was a favorite pastime. Mr. Scott will be remembered as a family-oriented person who cherished special times with his children and friends.
In addition to his wife of 51 years, Mr. Scott is survived by five daughters, Debbie Hames of Henderson, TN, Judy McNabb of Somerville, TN, Eleanor Twigg of Arlington, TN, Pam Morgan of Homosassa, FL, Laura Pumphrey of Memphis, TN; his brother, James L. "Jimmy" Scott of Macon, TN; and seven grandchildren, Joshua Culver, Kayla Culver, Ashley McNabb, Kristin McNabb, Alex Twigg, Carson Twigg and Tristan Morgan.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Melvin Scott and Johnny Scott.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Tommy Wade, Mark McNabb, Kyle Morgan, Jacob Jenkins, June Crisp and John Sullivan.
Honorary casketbearers were Joshua Culver, J.R. Hames, James Montague and Joseph McNabb.
