WILLIAM CLAUDE STARNES, a resident of the Williston Community and retired employee of the Carrier Corporation in Collierville died at 12:17 P.M. Friday, June 12, 2009 at his residence. He was 78 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Funeral services for Mr. Starnes were conducted at 3 P.M. Monday, June 15th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Rev. Loyd Shelton, Pastor of the New Hope Baptist Church in Collierville, officiating. Interment with Military Honors followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-West Chapel of Oakland.
Mr. Starnes was born June 6, 1931 in Munford, Tennessee and was preceded in death by his parents Harry Claude Starnes and Opal Acre Starnes.
He was a graduate of the Munford High School and was a United States Air Force Veteran. He was married May 16, 1958 to the former Hilda Faye Holloway of Itawamba County, Mississippi. Mrs. Starnes preceded him in death on December 20, 2002.
Mr. Starnes was a former resident of Moscow before moving to the Williston Community in 1974. He was of the Baptist Faith and was employed as a Press Operator for the Carrier Corporation in Collierville for twenty-eight years before his retirement in the year 2000.
He will be remembered for his enjoyment of hunting, fishing and nature. He was a family-oriented person with a deep love for his family and home.
Survivors of Mr. Starnes include his daughter, Tammy Starnes and son, Billy Starnes, both of Williston.
Those honored to serve as casket bearers were Billy Dobbs, Tony German, James Gullett, Stan Matheson, Bobby Parks and Kevin Treadway.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the church, charity or organization of the donor's choice.
