William Fred Sturdivant

October 18, 1935 — March 7, 2025

Collierville, Tennessee

William Fred Sturdivant, Sr., age 89, resident of Collierville, Tennessee and husband of the late Beverly Sturdivant, went to be with the Lord, Friday afternoon, March 7, 2025 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.

Billy was born October 18, 1935 in Montevista, Mississippi, the son of the late Lomax and Inez Sturdivant. He grew up in rural Mississippi before moving to Memphis. It was there that he met and fell in love with “Bez”. He was a loving, faithful husband to her for 65 years tenderly caring for her as she dealt with health issues in her later years. He was employed in commercial construction and spent many of those years working alongside his brother, Max, before his retirement. Billy was a member of First Baptist Church Fisherville for over 60 years singing in the choir, serving as a deacon, and in other activities. He especially loved serving and leading worship for the nursing home ministry at the Collierville Nursing Home which he did every week for many, many years. He valued each resident and wanted them to know they were cared about. Along with the old, he loved children and adored spending time with his grandchildren as they were growing up. He loved watching and feeding birds and other animals.

Billy is survived by his son, William (Bill) Sturdivant, Jr. (Carol); his daughter, Jan Armstrong; two brothers, Rick Sturdivant and Max Sturdivant; and seven beloved grandchildren, Scott (Cait), Bradley (Danielle), Rachel, AmyBeth (Kevin), Courtney, Brant and Chase; and four great-grandchildren, Harper, Teddy, Willow and Riley.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Martin “Marty” Sturdivant and his sister, Rose Mary Sturdivant.

Funeral Services for Mr. Sturdivant were held at 1 P.M. Thursday, March 13, 2025 at First Baptist Church Fisherville with Bro. Jeff James officiating. Interment followed in Fisherville Cemetery.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Scott Sturdivant, Bradley Sturdivant, Farley Houston, Brant Armstrong, Chase Armstrong and Kevin Kline.
