William "Bill" Ray Higdon

William Ray “Bill” Higdon, age 76, resident of Moscow and husband of Willa “Dean” Morris Higdon, departed this life Saturday afternoon, July 18, 2015 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis.

A Funeral Mass for Mr. Higdon was conducted at 10 A.M. Thursday, July 23rd at the St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church in Somerville with Father Stephen Kenny, pastor of the church, officiating. Interment with Military Honors followed in the All Saints Cemetery in Memphis. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mr. Higdon was born September 6, 1938 in Owensboro, Kentucky. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Higdon and Therese Barr Higdon. He received his education in the Ownesboro Catholic High School and served in the United States Marine Corps as a young person. He was married for 19 years to the former Willa “Dean” Morris, who survives. He was a resident of the Moscow Community for many years and was a member of the St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church in Somerville. Mr. Higdon was active in the Knights of Columbus and enjoyed reading and fishing.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Higdon is survived by two daughters, Laura Elizabeth Childress (Ken) of Atoka, Therese Karen Brown of Bartlett; two sisters, Dottie Norris (Dan) of Owensboro, KY, Doris Robichaud (Gary) of San Francisco, CA; three brothers, Bob Higdon (Francil) of Hartford, KY, Leon Higdon (Rachel) of Owensboro, KY, Jody Higdon (Nancy) of Cedarburg, WI; four grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Joan Whealen Higdon, his brother Larry Higdon and two sisters, Faye Higdon and Claudette Zoglmann.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Tray Desnoyer, Randy Brown, Anthony Davis, J.J. Alred, Robbie Tomlinson and Chris Young.

The family requests that memorials be directed to the St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church Building Fund, 11710 Highway 64, Somerville, TN 38068.
