William "Bill" Mayo Tomlin

June 12, 1930 — August 13, 2012

William Mayo “Bill” Tomlin, lifelong farmer and resident of Fayette County died Monday morning, August 13, 2012 at his residence. He was 82 years of age and died following an extended illness.

Services of Remembrance for Mr. Tomlin were conducted at 3 P.M. Wednesday, August 15th at the Oakland Presbyterian Church with Rev. J. Michael Krech of the First Presbyterian Church in Somerville officiating. Interment followed in the Oakland Town Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center — West Chapel at Oakland.

Mr. Tomlin was born June 12, 1930 in Oakland. He was preceded in death by his parents, Troy W. Tomlin and Evelyn Murrell Tomlin. He graduated from Fayette County High School and farmed in Oakland for 60 years. Mr. Tomlin was married on June 14, 1963 to the former Ruth Jones of La Grange, who survives. He was a member of the Fayette County Commission from 1960 to 1966 and a longtime elder of the Oakland Presbyterian Church. Mr. Tomlin enjoyed quail hunting, walking horses and raising cows.

In addition to his wife of 49 years, Mr. Tomlin is survived by his daughter, Tara Horton and husband, Patrick of Memphis; his son, Troy Tomlin of Oakland; his sister, Mary Evelyn “Polly” Jennesse of Hollywood, FL; and his brother, Gordon Murrell Tomlin of Oakland.

Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Gordon Tomlin, Wilson Tomlin, Scott Rhea, Matt Rhea, Jim Britt and Jeffrey Cooley.
