William Callis “Bill” Rice, 74, passed away on April 20, 2019. He was born in Brownsville, TN, on September 13, 1944, to Charleen Jackson Rice and John Calhoun Rice, Jr. He was a lifelong resident of Braden and member of Braden United Methodist Church.
Bill graduated from Fayette County High School ’62, Vanderbilt University ’66, and the University of Tennessee College of Law ’69 and was admitted to the Tennessee Bar in 1969. He served in the U. S. Army at Ft. Benning 1969-71. Bill enjoyed gardening, reading, and spending time with friends and family. He loved music and dancing, and he sang in the choir at church. He had a wonderful memory and served as the unofficial family historian.
He is survived by his brother John Calhoun “Jack” Rice III and sister-in-law Elizabeth “Betsy” Rice of Braden, a niece and nephew, two aunts, and several cousins.
A graveside service was conducted by the Reverend Mike Pilcher at 10 A.M. on Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at the Munford Cemetery on Highway 51 in Covington. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center - Main Chapel in Somerville.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the church or charity of the donor’s choice.
