William David “Bill” Jones, age 86, resident of Eads, Tennessee and husband of Barbara Rayburn Jones, departed this life Thursday evening, July 5, 2018 at the Methodist LeBonheur Germantown Hospital.
Funeral Services for Mr. Jones were conducted at 1 P.M. Monday, July 9, 2018 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Bro. Eddie Little, pastor of the First Baptist Church Hickory Withe, officiating. Interment followed in the Memphis Memory Gardens Cemetery in Memphis. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center – West Chapel at Oakland.
Mr. Jones was born October 21, 1931 in Toone, Tennessee, the son of David Homer Jones and Lois Walton Jones. He received his education in the Hardeman County Public School System and continued his education at Union University in Jackson. He served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War period and was a resident of the Memphis area since 1954 and the Eads area since 1994. Mr. Jones was employed as a dispatch operator for Memphis Light Gas & Water and attended First Baptist Church Hickory Withe. He enjoyed woodworking and special times with his family.
Mr. Jones is survived by his wife who he married October 27, 2010, Barbara Jones of Eads, TN; two daughters, Deborah “Debbie” Wooddell (Randy) of Memphis, TN, Dana Wathen (Dennis) of Bartlett, TN; two sons, David Jones (Debbie) of Bartlett, TN, Dennis Jones (Mary) of Bartlett, TN; his sister, Glynda Mitchell (George) of Bolivar, TN; two brothers, Joe Jones (Rosemary) of Toone, TN, Levon Jones (Eulalia) of Murfreesboro, TN; five grandchildren, Whitney Hochstein, Ryan Jones, Michael Wathen, Christopher Wathen, Samantha Richards; and three great-grandchildren, Carter Hochstein, Harry Hochstein and Cora May Jones.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Nancy Smith.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Ryan Jones, Michael Wathen, Christopher Wathen, Daniel Hochstein, James Richards and Mike McCommon.
