William Glynn Hughes, age 70, resident of Oakland and husband of Becky Cook Hughes, departed this life Friday morning, May 19, 2017 at the St. Francis Hospital in Bartlett.
Services of Remembrance for Mr. Hughes were conducted at 12 noon Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at the Victory Life Church in the Warren Community with Bro. Craig McGee, pastor of the church, officiating. Interment with Military Honors followed in the Hood Cemetery in the Warren Community. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center – West Chapel at Oakland.
Mr. Hughes was born May 31, 1946 in Somerville, Tennessee. He received his education in the Fayette County Public School System and served his country in the United States Army. He was employed as a forklift operator at the Pfizer Corporation for many years before his retirement. Mr. Hughes was a resident of Oakland and a member of Victory Life Church in the Warren Community, where he did volunteer work. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and a University of Tennessee fan.
Mr. Hughes is survived by his wife whom he married May 6, 2003, Rebecca Lynn “Becky” Cook Hughes of Oakland, TN; two daughters, Amy Hurt (Stephen) of Oakland, KY, Rachael Watson (Andrew) of Arlington, TN; five sons, Jason Whitehurst (Tyra) of Cordova, TN, Chris Hughes (Janine) of Atoka, TN, Sammy Hughes (Mandy) of Bartlett, TN, Chuck Hensley (Christine) of Waverly, TN, Terry Hensley (DeeDee) of Waverly, TN; his sister, Phyllis Gross (Robert) of Burlison, TN; his brother, Roy Melvin Hughes of Oakland, TN; fifteen grandchildren, Zachary Bell, Timmi Glimp, Dylan Hughes, Lillian Hughes, Bryce Hughes, Dustin Marcum, Dylan Marcum, Mia Whitehurst, McKenzie Whitehurst, Ashlyn Sweeney, Maddox Sweeney, Zander Watson, Eli Hensley, Joshua Hensley, Joshua Lee; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Roy Hughes and Eva Gertie Johnson Hughes; two sisters, Fannie Bell, Bonnie Jean McKnatt; and his grandson, Chase Whitehurst.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Paul Hamblin, Josiah Collum, Jeremiah Collum, Bryce Hughes, Dennis Hayes and Jonah Collum. Honorary pallbearers were Christian Anderson, Dylan Hughes and Teig Peppers.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the Victory Life Assembly of God, 11670 U.S. Highway 64, Somerville, TN 38068.
