William M. “Bill” Anderson, Jr., 76, resident of Oxford, Mississippi and Director of Construction for the University of Mississippi, departed this life peacefully in the comfort of his home on Tuesday morning, December 31, 2013.
A Service of Remembrance for Mr. Anderson was conducted at 3 P.M. Friday, January 3, 2014 at the Oxford University United Methodist Church. Interment followed in the Oxford Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - Main Chapel of Somerville.
A native of Dickson, Mr. Anderson was born January 29, 1937. He was preceded in death by his parents, William M. Anderson, Sr. and Mildred Taylor Anderson. He received his education in the Union City, TN Public School System and was a graduate of the Union City High School and was a graduate of the University of Tennessee.
He was first married to the former Mary Garner Elliott who preceded him in death in 1979 and was later married to the former Suzanne Lamar Pickering who preceded him in death in 2012. He was a member of the Oxford University United Methodist Church and had been an active member of the Oxford Community for the past 43 years. “Pop”, as he was called by his family, was known for his storytelling, coffee club jokes and happy hour on “Pop’s Porch”.
Loved by his family and friends, Mr. Anderson is survived by his daughter, Sallie Kate Ray and husband, Dr. Mark Ray of Tupelo, MS; two sons, William M. (Andy) Anderson, III and wife, Cinny Anderson of New Orleans, LA, Dr. Robert M. (Rob) Pickering and wife, Kim Pickering of Memphis, TN; and five beloved grandchildren, William Pickering, Mary Taylor Ray, Andrew Ray, Taylor Anderson and Pixie Anderson.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers were William Pickering, Andrew Ray, Taylor Anderson, William Anderson, III, Dr. Rob Pickering, Dr. Mark Ray and Michael Hourin.
Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Wayne Terry Lamar, Jeffrey Butler, Dr. Robert Young, Ben Pettis, Dr. William Baker, Dennis Ford, Jerry Barber and Ian Banner.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the Oxford University United Methodist Church, 424 S. 10th Street, Oxford, MS 38655.
