William Morris Burton

November 23, 1939 — June 22, 2015

William Morris Burton, 75, of the Williston Community, Allstate insurance agent and husband of Maxine Orman Burton, departed this life Monday evening, June 22, 2015  at his residence surrounded by his family.

Services of Remembrance for Mr. Burton were conducted at 3 P.M. Thursday, June 25th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Bro. Elmer Ray officiating. Interment with Military Honors followed in the Macon Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - West Chapel at Oakland.

Mr. Burton was born November 23, 1939 in Macon. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Howard Burton and Mary Elizabeth Niblett Burton. He was a graduate of Fayette County High School Class of 1958 and was married March 19, 1965 to the former Maxine Orman, who survives. He served his country in the United States Navy as a young person and was employed for 48 years as an insurance agent for Allstate. Mr. Burton was a member of Pleasants Christian Church in Rossville and enjoyed fishing, farming, working and took much pride in his farm, which he called “The Ponderosa”. Mr. Burton will be remembered by this quote, "If you enjoy what you do, you'll never have to work a day in your life."

In addition to his wife of 50 years, Mr. Burton is survived by his daughter, Renee Burton of Collierville; three sons, William Morris “Billy” Burton, Jr., Shane Burton (Janet), Lance Burton, all of Collierville; three sisters, Ruby Garrington (Seth) of Somerville, Peggy Garner of Memphis, Angie Turnage of Memphis; two brothers, Jack Burton (Evelyn) of Bartlett, Ray Burton of Memphis; two grandchildren, Jamie Osburn of Collierville, William Morris “Trey” Burton, III of Millington; and a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Aileen Starnes and two brothers, Howard Burton and Gene Burton.

Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Mark Starnes, Mike Starnes, Rusty Garrington, Alan Burton, Clint Starnes and Jason Starnes.
