William Fredrick "Ricky" Hampton, age 58, resident of the Oakland Community, retired welder for Smith Transportation Company in Byhalia, Mississippi and husband of Sherry Hampton, departed this life Tuesday evening, April 1, 2014 at his residence.
Services for Mr. Hampton were conducted at 11 A.M. Saturday, April 5th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with interment in the Macon Cemetery at Macon, Tennessee. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - West Chapel at Oakland.
Mr. Hampton was born February 27, 1956 in Memphis. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Francis Hampton and Mary Pearl Miller Hampton. He received his education in the Fayette County Public School System and was a graduate of Fayette County High School Class of 1974. He was married January 1, 1999 to the former Sherry Kay Smith, a customer service employee for Grisham Corporation in Arlington, who survives.
A Methodist, Mr. Hampton was a resident of the Oakland Community for over 13 years. He enjoyed all things outdoors that included hunting, fishing and camping. His interests included special times with his family and friends, playing his acoustic guitar, music and storytelling.
In addition to his wife of 15 years, Mr. Hampton is survived by his daughter, Stephanie Walker (Jonathan) of Somerville; four sons, Jason Hampton (Kelly) of Oakland, Joseph Hampton (Tara) of Jasper, AL, Brian Thompson of Selmer, TN, Jimmy Simpson (Misty) of Henderson, TN; two sisters, Sherry Duncan of Oakland, Jo Ann Hampton of Collierville; nine grandchildren, Mallory Hampton, Audrey Hampton, Shanna Thompson, Haley Simpson, Kaitlyn Simpson, Kaley Walker, Nathan Walker, Nan Stringer, Teresa Stringer; his nephew, Chris Duncan; his niece, Deana Sanford; and two great nieces, Loren Sanford and Emily Arangino.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Wayne Mitchell, Bruce Davidson, Chris Thompson, Chris Whittemore, Jason Hampton and Pedie Cofer.
Honorary casketbearers were Steve Rogers, Jerry Peak and Abelino "Abi" Catalan.
