William Franklin "Trip" McElroy, III, age 56, Germantown resident, President, Owner and Insurance Agent for McElroy Insurance Agency, Incorporated in Memphis, husband of Patricia Suzanne Laseter-McElroy and a person active in the business, community and athletic activities of the Memphis area throughout his life, died Thursday, August 23, 2012 in Memphis.
Services for Mr. McElroy will be at 4 Wednesday afternoon, September 19, 2012 at the Memphis Botanic Gardens. Interment will be private.
William F. (Trip) McElroy, III was born July 28, 1956 in Memphis. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Franklin McElroy, Jr. and Mary Ann Tyson McElroy. He was a Christian and a graduate of the University of Mississippi. His many community contributions included memberships and associations with Grand Krewe of Ra-Met, where he served as Chairman 1986 and 1997 and as King 1990-1991.
He served as a Board Member for Grange Insurance 1993-1994. Mr. McElroy was a member of the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame, serving as President of the organization in 1992 and recipient of the Chauncey Dawson Award. He was active in Carnival Memphis, the Variety Club and a member of the Society of Certified Insurance Counselors and the Liberty Bowl Waterboy’s Association. He was married November 20, 1998 to the former Patricia Suzanne (Tricia) Laseter, an administrative employee for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, who survives.
In addition to his wife of 13 years, Mr. McElroy is survived by his sisters, Mary McElroy of Memphis and Susan McElroy of Memphis.
