Willie Mae Hughes

Willie Mae Muntz Hughes, longtime resident of Somerville and wife of the late James Edward “Buddy” Hughes, Sr. died Tuesday night, October 12, 2010 at the Methodist Hospital in Somerville where she had been a patient for five days. She was 74 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Funeral services for Mrs. Hughes were conducted at 2 P.M. Saturday, October 16
th
at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Bro. Robert Muntz, officiating. Interment followed in the Hood Cemetery in the Warren Community. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes—West Chapel of Oakland.
Mrs. Hughes was born in Munford, Tennessee on June 17, 1936 the daughter of the late William Edmond Muntz and the late Onay Martin Muntz. She was educated in the Tipton County Public School System and on December 23, 1952 married James Edward “Buddy” Hughes, Sr. who preceded her in death on July 11, 2003.
A Christian who will be remembered for her cooking, baking, sewing and gardening, Mrs. Hughes enjoyed special times with her family and friends.
Survivors of Mrs. Hughes include her daughters, Carolyn Triplett (Jones) and Judy Farmer, both of Somerville, her sons, Kenneth W. Hughes of Franklin, NC, Jerry L. Hughes, Sr. of Memphis, William E. Hughes of Somerville and Terry L. Hughes, Sr. of Somerville, her brothers, Robert Muntz of Arlington, Wilburn Muntz of Arlington and Richard Muntz of Somerville, 19 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her sons, James E. Hughes, Jr., Larry Joe Hughes and her grandson, B. J. Miles.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Andy Hughes, Chris Hughes, Cecil Cannon, Jr., Kevin Treadway, Joey Cannon and David Upton. Honorary casketbearer was Jerry Hughes, Jr.
