WILLIE MAE BUSBY JOHNSON

July 1, 1936 — September 9, 2008

WILLIE MAE BUSBY JOHNSON, longtime resident of Fayette County and wife of the late Cecil Johnson, died at 5:25 P.M. Tuesday, September 9, 2008 at her residence on Day Road, east of Somerville. She was 72 years of age and died following an extended illness.

Funeral services for Mrs. Johnson were conducted at 2 P.M. Friday, September 12th at Morris Chapel Baptist Church in Somerville with the Rev. John Ed Watkins, Pastor of the Church, officiating. Interment followed in the Oakland Cemetery at Oakland, TN. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-Main Chapel of Somerville.

A native of Nesbit, MS, Mrs. Johnson was born July 1, 1936, the daughter of the late William Earl Busby and the late Minnie Mae Keller Busby. She was educated in the Mississippi Public School System and was married October 25, 1952 to Cecil Mack Johnson who died October 4, 1993.

A homemaker throughout her life, Mrs. Johnson had been a resident of the Somerville and Fayette County areas for many years. She was a devoted member of the Morris Chapel Baptist Church and participated in numerous church activities as long as health permitted.

She will be remembered as a person who enjoyed caring for others and preparing food for family and friends at family gatherings and on special occasions. Fishing and caring for her pets were favorite pastimes.

Survivors of Mrs. Johnson include five daughters: Gara Knight of Covington; Patsy Johnson and Carolyn Wray, both of Ripley, TN; Patricia Jackson of Macon and Joy Bell of Savannah; two step-daughters, Mary Jane Johnson and Annie Pearl Morgan, both of Phoenix, AZ; two sons, Charles Johnson of Somerville and James Johnson of Maury City, TN; her step-son Charles E. Johnson of Phoenix, AZ; two sisters, Norma Jean Knight of Galloway and Hazel Gullett of Oakland; her brother Bobby Johnson of Hayti, MO; twelve grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren and four great-great-granchildren.

Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Anthony Cates, Kevin Cates, Johnny Glass, Kenneth Jackson, Ashley Johnson and Tommy Knight.
