WILLIE JOE STAMPER DIFFEE, longtime resident of Williston and wife of the late Robert Knox Diffee, died at 2:15 A.M. Tuesday, March 25, 2008, at the National Healthcare Center in Somerville. She was 91 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Funeral services for Mrs. Diffee were conducted at 1 P.M. Wednesday, March 26th at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Rev. David Reeves, pastor of the Mid-Way Baptist Church at Whiteville, officiating. Interment followed in the Evergreen Cemetery at Williston. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Home - Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mrs. Diffee was born January 1, 1917, in Laconia, the daughter of the late John Henry Stamper and the late Addie Zora Burnett Diffee. She was educated in the public school system of Fayette County and was a graduate of the Moscow High School. Mrs. Diffee was married May 2, 1936, to Robert Knox Diffee, well-known Williston area farmer and cattleman, who preceded her in death January 14, 1992.
Mrs. Diffee was a homemaker and a devoted member of the Williston United Methodist Church for many years. She was also associated with her family in their cattle and chicken farming operations before their retirement and had one of the first poultry layer houses in Fayette County. Mrs. Diffee loved nature, music and in earlier years, played basketball for the local team. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
Mrs. Diffee is survived by her son, Henry Diffee (Carolyn) of Williston; 4 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Active casketbearers were Mark Diffee, Paul Diffee, Randy Cannon, Rodney Cannon, J.T. Stamper and Crossett Stamper.
Honorary casketbearers were Howard Bridges, Jerry Peterson and Larry Peterson.
The family request that memorials be directed to the Williston United Methodist Church.
