WILLIS DON "RED" MILLER, a resident of the Oakland Community and a U.S Naval Career Veteran, died at 2:30 A.M. Wednesday, February 6, 2008, at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis where he had been a patient for the past nine days. He was 82 years of age and died following a brief illness.
Services for Mr. Miller were conducted at 11 A.M. Friday, February 8th, at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Rev. Granville Watson, pastor of the Somerville First Baptist Church officiating. Interment will be in the Mission Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery in Urbana, MO.
Mr. Miller was born March 10, 1925, in Oklahoma City, OK the son of the late Floyd Benjamin Miller and the late Alta Fay Willis Miller. He moved at an early age with his parents to Missouri and was educated in the Granview, MO public school system. He served in the United States Navy from 1945 to 1967 as a Naval Construction Electrician. Mr. Miller was married to the former Marjetta Tuggle who preceded him in death on September 12, 2005.
Mr. Miller had been a resident of Fayette County for the past several years and was a member of the Somerville First Baptist Church. He was employed as an Engineering Supervisor for the Allen O'Hara Construction Company in Memphis before his retirement.
A person who enjoyed outdoor activities and nature, Mr. Miller will be remembered as a devoted husband and father who found pleasure in fishing, gardening, and patriotic activities.
He is survived by his children, Laura Lindsey of Grand Bay, AL, David M. Miller of Cordova; 3 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter.
