Wilton Shearin
1929—2010
Wilton Fred Shearin,
resident of the Bolivar Community, retired Civil Engineer and U.S. Air Force Veteran
died Sunday morning October 3, 2010 at the Pine Meadows Healthcare Center in Bolivar. He was 80 years of age and died following an extended illness.
A Graveside Service for Mr. Shearin was conducted at 10 A.M. Monday, October 4
th
with his nephew, Dr. Arthur L. Shearin of Searcy, Arkansas, officiating. Interment followed in the Union Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes—Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mr. Shearin was born in Bolivar on December 21, 1929. He was preceded in death by his parents Samuel Arthur Shearin and Pearl Ferrell Shearin. He received his education in the Hardeman County Public School System and received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.
Mr. Shearin served in the U. S. Air Force and was employed as a Civil Engineer with the U. S. Government for thirty years before his retirement. During his lengthy government career, Mr. Shearin was involved in the designing and construction of government buildings that included the Federal Bureau of Investigation Building at Quantico, Virginia, the Honolulu, Hawaii Courthouse and Gallaudet University in Washington, D. C.,
the world's only university where all programs and services are specifically designed to accommodate deaf and hard of hearing students.
Mr. Shearin was a resident of Lakeland, Florida for a number of years before returning to his native Hardeman County. In earlier years he was a private pilot and enjoyed experimental aircraft. Mr. Shearin’s memberships included the Lakeland, Florida Gun Club and the National Rifle Association. His hobby included the designing and reloading of ammunition.
Survivors of Mr. Shearin include his sisters, Rosa Lee Phillips of Murfreesboro, TN and Mildred F. Shearin of Sun City, FL, his three nieces, Amy Vaughan of Murfreesboro, TN, Lois Williams of Murfreesboro, TN and Rosemarie House of Frisco, TX and two nephews, Dr. Arthur Shearin of Searcy, AR and Michael T. Shearin of Bolivar.
