Winnie Delores (Gewin) Alsup

January 12, 1947 — May 13, 2014

Winnie Delores (Gewin) Alsup, 67, of Somerville, passed away May 13, 2014, at her home.  She was born January 12, 1947, to Ella Loyce (Arendell) and Edward Eugene Gewin in Memphis, TN.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Patricia Lee Lemmon, Edna Lois Carroll, and Nancy Joann Sasser; and her brother, Hadda Lee Gewin.

She is survived by her loving husband of 36 years, Gerald Alsup; her daughters, Sonya Kathlene Futrell (Billy), of Oakland, TN, Patricia Jane Jones (Jeff), of Memphis, TN, and Rachel Lee Best (Jerry), of Graham, WA; her sons, Dennis Alan Foster II (Lisa), of Arlington, TN, and Michael Todd Alsup (Aundrea), of Spring Hill, TN.  She is also survived by 7 granddaughters, Katie Taylor, Ashley Alsup, Maegan Alsup, Erin Saunders, Brooke Saunders, Erin Davis, and Emma Jane Futrell; 4 grandsons, Justin Kelly, Sean Best, Scott Best, and Jesse Best; 4 great grandchildren; three sisters, Barbara Charlene Eoff, of Holly Springs, MS, Juanita Lee Bailey, of Memphis, TN, and Rosita Green, of West Plains, MO; two brothers, Edward Eugene Gewin Jr., of Glendale, CA, and Reddick Leondis Gewin, of West Plains, MO; many nieces and nephews; and her beloved pets, Tut, Quibilah, and Nefertari.

She was married June 2, 1978, to Gerald Alsup, a retired fire investigator.  She was a Christian in faith and a homemaker throughout her life, working as a florist in earlier years.  She was a former resident of Collierville before moving to the Somerville Community 14 years ago.  She enjoyed gardening, quilting, and researching her family history.  Special times with her family were a very important part of her life.

Services for Mrs. Alsup were conducted at 1 P.M. Tuesday, May 20th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland, 10670 U.S. Highway 64, Somerville, TN 38068. Interment followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, any memorials be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Department 142, Memphis, TN 38105 or the Fayette County Animal Rescue, P.O. Box 44, Rossville, TN 38066.
