Winnie Sue (Ollis) Dalton

October 9, 1915 — January 15, 2014

Winnie Sue Ollis Dalton, longtime resident of the Piperton Community, well-known artist and a career person with Sears Roebuck and Company, departed this life Wednesday morning, January 15, 2014 at her residence. She was 98 years of age and died following an extended illness.

Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Dalton were conducted at 2 P.M. Friday, January 17th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Rev. Jeremy Todd, pastor of the Piperton Baptist Church, officiating. Interment followed on Saturday, January 18th in the Dean Chapel Cemetery near Henagar, Alabama. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center — West Chapel at Oakland.

Mrs. Dalton was born October 9, 1915 in Avery County, North Carolina. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lafayette Wheaton Ollis and Mary Jane Miller Ollis. She moved at an early age with her family to Alabama where she received her education in the Alabama Public School System. She was married to James B. Dalton, longtime railroad company employee, who preceded her in death.

Mrs. Dalton was a devoted member of the Piperton Baptist Church for many years where she participated in numerous church activities as long as health permitted. She had been a resident of the Piperton Community for over 40 years and was employed in the auditing department for the Sears Roebuck and Company in Memphis for over 40 years before her retirement.

She will be remembered as an accomplished artist who participated in numerous art shows throughout the Mid-South. She was a member of the Memphis Area Art Club and will be remembered as an avid gardener of flowers and vegetables, taking much pleasure in caring for her home and yard. Mrs. Dalton served as a “grandmother” to her many family members and was a giving person who enjoyed sharing remembrances with others. Mrs. Dalton considered the members of the Piperton Baptist Church as her family who gave her much comfort during her illness and in earlier years.

Mrs. Dalton is survived by two sisters, Annie Reed of Detroit, Michigan, Beatrice Ollis of Detroit, Michigan and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

The family requests that memorials be directed to the Piperton Baptist Church, 205 E. State Line Drive, Collierville, TN 38017 or the organization of the donor’s choice.
